For almost two decades now, Meera Kant has incessantly endeavoured to bring to centre-stage the muffled voices of the marginalised through her fiction, plays and occasionally, long poems and articles. The strife torn woman in search of her identity and the less fortunate, left out of the main stream of the social hubble bubble, is the leit- motif of her literature.

Meera Kant’s creative journey has traversed the undulating inner world of the ever struggling woman and the stumped ordinary mortals, bereft of their right to live with dignity. The text and sub-text of her writings give vent to the unsung and unheard dirge of the hapless miserable, which in turn transforms itself into haunting reverberations in the psyche of the readers.

The profound and well knit prefaces of Meera Kant's plays Ihamrig, Bhuvaneshwar Dar Bhuvaneshwar and Huma Ko Ud Jane Do has been written by Dr. Sushma Bhatnagar which make forays into the inner world of these creative endeavours and provide a deep insight into their dramatic sub-text.

Born in 1958, Srinagar, Meera Kant has completed her MA from the University of Delhi and PhD from Jamia Millia Islamia. Her research thesis was on Antarrashtriya Mahila Dashak Mein Hindi Patrakarita Ki Boomika (Role of Hindi Journalism in the International Women’s decade). At present, she is working as an Editor at the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi.

• Mohan Rakesh Samman 2008(First Prize) of Sahitya kala Parishad for play uttar-Prashna.
• Sahityakar Samman 2005- 06 of Hindi Akademi, Delhi.
• Ambika Prasad Divya Smriti Puraskar 2004 ,for the novel Tatah  Kim.
• Mohan Rakesh Samman 2003 (First Prize in the national level competition) of Sahitya Kala Parishad,new delhi for the play Nepathya Raag.
• Seth Govind Das Samman 2003, for the play Ihamrig.
• Sarvshrestha Kathaanak award of Nishtha Saanskritik  Manch, Gurgaon, Haryana at the sixth All India Drama and Dance Mahotsav. Dr. Gokul Chandra Ganguli Smriti Samman 2008 at the 26th All India Hindi Drama Competition, Varanasi for play Bhuvaneshwar dar Bhuvaneshwar.
• First prize for the story and script of a 60-minute film Aisa ho to kaisa ho in a National competition sponsored by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, 1992.
